FlashFuel FF2100
The Critical Role of Flash Triggers
In underwater photography, flash triggers are indispensable. They capture the electrical signal from the camera’s hot shoe and convert it into an optical light signal to trigger external strobes. However, standard triggers currently on the market face several critical issues:
1. Severe Power Limitations: Most triggers rely on 3V coin batteries with a capacity of only 80–160 mAh. This is extremely low and often results in a short operational life, with some triggers requiring a battery change after just a few months of use.
2. Weak Signal Output: The low voltage of coin batteries often fails to provide enough power to trigger insensitive strobes or work reliably through low-quality fiber optic cables.
3. Inability to Support Burst Shooting: Coin batteries have a very small discharge current, making them incapable of supporting high-speed burst shooting. This is a vital technique for capturing animal behaviors and fast-moving subjects. While modern shooting styles require 10 to 20 frames per second (fps), standard triggers frequently miss frames due to slow recycling speeds.
4. Fragile Hardware: Many triggers use weak, thin cables. A common issue occurs when users pull the camera out from the front of the housing but forget to disconnect the hot shoe, causing the cable to stretch and break.
The Underwater Power Crisis
Underwater photographers face a unique challenge: they cannot change batteries during a dive. Most cameras rely on an internal 2000–2400 mAh battery, which is insufficient for heavy burst shooting or long video sessions. This becomes especially problematic on boat trips with multiple dives in rough conditions, where opening the housing for switching battery during surface intervals is impossible.
The Solution: Marelux FlashFuel FF2100
To solve these problems, Marelux developed the FlashFuel FF2100, a patented 2-in-1 combo that functions as both a professional flash trigger and a robust power bank.
• Superior Battery Capacity: FlashFuel uses an exchangeable CR123 lithium battery as its power source for triggering. With a capacity of 800–1400 mAh, it offers 5 to 10 times more power than standard coin batteries. Depending on your shooting volume, it can last for over a year on a single battery.
• Unmatched Signal Strength: Powered by this high-capacity source, FlashFuel uses ultra-powerful LEDs with a brightness three times higher than previous models. It can reliably trigger any insensitive strobes, through any fiber optic cable on the market, regardless of quality.
• True High-Speed Performance: It is engineered for action, supporting continuous shooting at 20fps+ with zero missed frames.
• Integrated Power Bank: It features a built-in 2100 mAh rechargeable battery and a USB-C port. It can provide up to 30W of output power (5V–20V) to charge or power your camera directly, effectively doubling your shooting time.
• Intelligent Power Management: Equipped with the USB Power Delivery (PD) protocol, this power bank is universally compatible with any camera on the market. It features a patented auto-trigger function that activates charging automatically the moment you trigger the camera’s shutter, eliminating the need for manual power buttons.
• Rugged, Intelligent Design: The module is built with a reinforced cable to prevent accidental breakage and features a dual-port layout: a primary USB-C port to power your camera and a side-mounted USB port to supply power to additional devices inside the housing
